Do you want to catch a typhoon on a distant tropical island? Wet in the rain all vacation? Teeth chattering from the cold wind chilling to the bone? We list the most unsuccessful destinations for winter holidays. Find out where it is better not to meddle in winter.
Faroe islands
Only desperate lovers of chilly weather with rains and dense fogs will enjoy winter in the Faroe Islands. Short daylight hours, weather changes every 5 minutes, humidity and fierce winds.
When to go? In summer and early autumn, although even at this time the weather in the Faroes is very changeable.
Samui
Isn't Thailand the perfect winter destination? Most of its resorts are yes, but not Samui. On this tropical island in December, the weather is capricious and intermittent, but frequent showers. This does not scare some, but for beach lovers there is a big problem - swimming in the sea at this time is unsafe. For winter holidays in Thailand, it is better to choose Phuket or Pattaya.
When to go? May to October. However, in January and February, good weather is already setting on Koh Samui.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is a large island with a varied climate. In winter, you will have a great rest in the resorts of the southwest of the island, but it is better not to go to the northeast. During the winter months it rains there and the sea is muddy and rough.
When to go? From December to April - to the southwest, and from February to September - to the northeast.
Vietnam
How so? Vietnam is a popular winter destination! Yes, but it's better not to include the north and center of the country in the plans. In winter, Hanoi is damp, rainy and windy, and the resorts of the center of the country are flooded. There is a risk of typhoons. Tested on myself: it is better not to meddle north of Da Nang - you will freeze and get wet.
When to go? To the south in winter, to the north in summer.
Bali
Many people mistakenly consider Bali to be an ideal winter destination. No matter how it is - from mid-December to mid-February there is a rainy season. If you are counting on a cloudless sky and clear sea, take a look at other destinations.
When to go? April to October. Surfing season is summer.
Netherlands
If you are pampered by central heating, the winter Netherlands is not for you. It is mercilessly drizzling outside, and I want to return to a warm hotel and wrap myself in a blanket. But most hotels save on heating (although they charge at least 80 euros per day!), So choose your accommodation carefully according to reviews.
When to go? Late spring, summer and early fall.
Philippines
You can see the approaching typhoon, feel goosebumps from the eerie haze and violent gusts of wind, feel the salty spray of the raging sea on your lips and find yourself cut off from civilization on the island in winter in the Philippines. This is how we spent our Christmas holidays on Bantayan Island: just two hundred kilometers away from us a tropical typhoon raged (even people were evacuated), and we admired the black clouds and wondered if the elements would overtake our island.
When to go? In general, the typhoon season is approximately from May to November, August is the most dangerous month. But since there is no pronounced rainy season, there is always a risk of typhoons. The most dangerous is the north of the island of Luzon, the islands to the south of it are already quieter, and Mindanao is considered the safest.
