Berlin is a city that combines a rich history and the free spirit of our time. Here, every tourist will find attractions to their liking, and dozens of languages can be heard on the streets. Of course, it is impossible to get around all the interesting places in one weekend, but you can feel the atmosphere to come back here again, paving other routes.
What to see in Berlin in 1 day?
To immerse yourself in the city right away, we recommend heading to the Brandenburg Gate, the famous arch that once divided it into West and East Berlin. This is one of the main symbols of the city. Not far from the gate is the Room of Silence (Raum der Stille), where you can sit and meditate.
Museums
Then you can just go for a walk along the street Unter den Linden past the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, the Art Gallery and the University. Humboldt towards Museum Island. Here are the museums that you will meet on the island:

- German technical museum in Berlin. You will find exhibits on a variety of topics: natural science objects, computer technology, industrial objects, as well as the Spectrum department dedicated to science. Here you can not only look at the exhibits, but also touch them.
XX century history
History lovers will plunge into the atmosphere of the last century and see objects that keep the memory of tragic events and the lives of people of that time.
Reichstag. It is a famous historic building and the most visited parliament in the world. At first, the Reichstag of the German Empire and the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic were located here, and in 1945 the Victory Banner was fixed on it. In 1990, this building hosted the official ceremony of the unification of Germany, and now, after reconstruction, it houses the Bundestag.

Berlin Wall. The wall, 160 kilometers long and more than 3 meters high, divided Germany into West and East for almost 30 years. It was surrounded by barbed wire, and for attempts to cross it, more than 75 thousand people were detained and convicted, more than a thousand were shot. Today it is a symbol of freedom and unity.
Berlin Wall Museum. The museum is located at Checkpoint Charlie, a former border checkpoint on Friedrichstrasse. Here you will learn about the Cold War, the totalitarian regime and the attempts of the East Germans to cross the border.
Museum of the GDR. The exposition will immerse you in the life and everyday life of the inhabitants of East Germany. The museum is located opposite Berlin Cathedral in the Mitte district.
Memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It consists of a surface part - 2711 concrete slabs, and an underground - an information center with an exposition about the Holocaust.

Streets

Castles and palaces
There are a lot of them in Berlin and the surrounding area, choose according to your taste. Remember to spend more time visiting palaces and castles. Here's what you can see in Berlin on day 2:
- Charlottenburg, one of the greatest architectural monuments in the Baroque style;
- Ephraim's palace in the Rococo style in the Mitte area;
- palace and park ensemble Tegel on the shore of the lake in the Tegel region, where Alexander and Wilhelm Humboldt once lived;
- Köpenick Palace located on an island where the Spree and Dame rivers merge;
- Bisdorf Palace 19th century with a tower and observation deck;
- Schoenhausen, which housed the residence of the President of the GDR Wilhelm Pieck, and then the State Council of the GDR. Then the building had the functions of a guest house for official delegations, and in 1991 it was here that an agreement was signed that actually completed the process of German reunification.
Parks and zoos
Tiergarten. In the old park, you can safely walk and take a break from the hustle and bustle, wandering along the paths and looking at the ponds and streams. There is also a monument to the Soviet soldier and the House of Culture of the Nations of the World.
Treptower Park. The park is located on the banks of the Spree. After the war, a memorial to Soviet soldiers-liberators was opened here.
Spandau. Spandau used to be a separate town, but now it is part of Berlin. Here you will get to know the old town and the ancient citadel on the Spree.
Zoo Zoo. It was opened back in 1844. Here you will see elephants, giraffes, goats, penguins and many other animals, including two pandas. The menagerie ranks first in terms of the number of animal species. The Berlin Zoo also has an aquarium.
Tierpark Berlin. This zoo was erected in the GDR, since the older one was in the western part of the city, and it is several times larger than the first. There are over 950 animal species here.
